There is a belief that the construction of Ankara would guide the destiny of a nation, transforming the city, which Refik Halid Karay depicted as "orphaned, poor, and pale," into a "dignified, yet coquettish, apple of the eye" capital.

For the design by Şevki Balmumcu, built as a result of the "Ankara Exhibition House International Architectural Project Competition" launched by the National Economy and Saving Society in 1933, the publications of the time stated, "Now local architects can also build modern structures like foreign architects." However, the fate of the building, which radically represented the modern architectural understanding of its era, is noteworthy.

In 1945, the task of converting the building into an opera house and adapting it to the Second National Architectural style was given to architect Paul Bonatz. Thus, the "nationalization" of the building, which originally had simple masses and unadorned surfaces, with neo-classical additions, ornamentation, and alterations, was carried out by a German architect.

The opera house, expected to undertake the function of modernizing society, has continued its existence as an example of our local and national contradictions to this day.

The Exhibition House illustration from Onur Kutluoğlu's series on symbolic structures from the early Republican period brings the optimistic idea of "modernization" dominant in the early Republican era to the present day, while also sending a faithful greeting to its architect, Şevki Balmumcu!

The 500-year-old raki culture continues to rejuvenate over time, incorporating different colors and dynamic energy. While new voices like Hayko Cepkin and Gaye Su Akyol are added alongside classic names like Hamiyet Yüceses and Müzeyyen Senar, new-generation meyhanes (taverns) are also emerging alongside classic ones. Raki is no longer just a drink belonging to middle-aged, fatherly men; it is transforming into a culture where people of all colors blend creativity, gusto, zest for life, music, meze, and conversation. The white of raki is now becoming a spectrum embracing differences.

Anason İşleri was born with the aim of bringing this vibrant, re-energized raki culture together with the language of design. They set out to create products that reach into daily life, dining tables, and homes, moving beyond the office environment and digital world. Adopting the principle of transforming crisis into design, they produced anise-scented items. They have created innovative designs across a wide range, from raki glasses to meze plates, tablecloths to t-shirts, wallpapers to accessories. Anason İşleri aims to give raki culture a universal form by collaborating with innovative designers.
