This rare material is not a separate species of tree but is made from oak wood that sank into bogs centuries ago and underwent various transformation processes. As a result, the wood is permanently naturally preserved. Under the influence of tannins in the bog, a significant, dark color develops. The very rarely found trunks make this material truly scarce. The color of the wood varies between brown, dark brown, and black-brown. Square timbers are cut from the few usable trunk sections before they are then turned into handles. Polishing processes with fine oils also seal the surfaces and give them a silky matte luster.
