On March 16, Paul Van Doren and his brother Jim Van Doren, along with partners Gordon Lee and Serge Delia, opened The Van Doren Rubber Company in Anaheim, California. The Vans #44 deck shoes, known as Authentic, were born. Skateboarders, who loved Vans™'s sturdy design and sticky sole, began to be seen all over Southern California sporting their Vans.
