The Material -Porcelain

The handles of this EDITION are made of pure Meissen porcelain. Their decor, the Chinese Ming dragon, showcases what is probably the most famous painting of this renowned manufactory. Made by master craftspeople and meticulously painted with the utmost care and attention, the elegant handles are probably one of the most beautiful things that MÜHLE has ever produced. And what about the dragon? It’s a symbol of masculine energy – day after day, on Tuesdays as well as Sundays.

From the composition of the bright red hue (which is, incidentally, the colour of happiness) to the overglaze technique, this pattern is familiar to many, many generations. A ring made of chrome-plated metal is a beautiful feature on the neck and bottom of each handle.

Without chrome the world would forfeit a lot of its lustre. In the finish used for our wet shaving accessories it demonstrates its best qualities: The material is corrosion-resistant, very long-lasting and has a luxurious, alluring lustre. When contrasted with this, the colours and shapes of other premium materials are shown to their very best advantage.

HOW TO USE A RAZOR?

Moisten the shaving zone – the face and neck – with warm to hot water.

Make a loose lather from shaving soap or cream with the brush, apply in gentle strokes and enjoy the massage effect, then allow to take effect for one or two minutes. Shaving with a safety razor requires a little practice. The skin also needs some time to grow accustomed to the shave. Getting started will be easier if you follow these instructions:

Step 1:

Moisten the beard area, preferably with warm water, and lather it thoroughly with a brush. If possible, use a highly effective moisturising shaving cream or soap. This will allow the blade to slide over the skin more easily. Make sure that the razor head and handle are firmly attached to each other, but only tighten the screw to the extent that it can be unscrewed without much effort.

Step 2:

Now begin with the shave. Hold the safety razor at an obtuse angle (approx. 30°) to the skin. Start with the cheeks and allow the razor to slide over the skin, applying gentle pressure. Always shave in the direction of the beard growth (with the grain).

Step 3:

When shaving the neck, stretch the skin tight with your free hand. Do not be discouraged by small cuts or grazes. Once you have familiarised yourself with the razor, they will rarely occur. For practised shavers: by slightly loosening the handle (approx. ½ a revolution) the angle of the blade is increased. This enables you to shave very cleanly in contours. Always tighten the handle before continuing with the rest of the shave. We recommend our rust-proof MÜHLE razor blades which are the perfect match for our safety razors.

Rinse - moisturize: Rinse your skin with cold water after shaving, moisturize, nourish and refresh with an aftershave balm or aftershave.

Mühle's closed-comb razors are safe structures where a safety bar is located between the blade and the skin, allowing the blade to contact the skin only at a certain angle (30-45 degrees). Since the blade remains behind the safety bar and cannot directly contact the skin, both first-time users of classic razors can comfortably use it, and it provides an efficient yet skin-friendly shave for daily use.

Anyone new to traditional wet shaving can use Mühle's closed-comb razors. They are suitable for daily shaving and are quality machines that can be used for a lifetime. All closed-comb razors have the same head but are offered with different handle designs. All are designed with optimal balance, maneuverability, and grip ergonomics in mind.

So, what is an open-comb structure? What is the difference between it and a closed-comb structure? It is important to know the difference between the two structures to ensure that the razor you buy is suitable for you.

Mühle's open-comb razors do not have a safety bar. Instead of a safety bar, they have a comb-like structure, and due to the different blade bending angle, the blade can contact the skin directly and at a steep angle.

These razors require practice and provide a very close shave. Because of their comb-like structure, whiskers enter the comb, and the blade can cut the whiskers closer to the skin. Compared to the closed-comb structure, its aggressiveness is more than double, very close to a straight razor.

How to Use

Prepare your skin for shaving: For a perfect traditional wet shave, always shave during or after a warm shower. Apply lather to your skin to soften it and prepare your beard for shaving. Applying shaving cream with a shaving brush helps remove dead skin cells and lifts the hairs, preparing them for a comfortable shave. Also, if possible, allowing the lather to sit on your skin for at least 1-2 minutes will further soften your beard and make shaving easier.
Initial grip: The safety razor should be held at a 30° angle to the skin. To find the correct angle, first hold the razor parallel to your skin. Then slowly raise the razor, stopping as soon as you feel the blade touching your skin; this is the 30° angle you should maintain. You can be sure that after about 5 shaves, you will naturally find the correct angle and gain practice.
First pass: The most important rule to know when using a safety razor is not to press down. Let the razor do its work with its own weight. Make the first pass in the direction of hair growth. Do not go over areas where you feel the razor isn't cutting your beard. A safety razor reduces and cuts the beard; it does not provide a baby-smooth shave in one pass. Save these areas for the second pass. One of the simplest causes of irritation is pressing down and repeatedly going over the skin with the razor blade. Do not allow this!
Second pass: After reapplying lather to your skin, clean the remaining hairs in the second pass, also in the direction of hair growth. If you want a closer shave, you can shave perpendicular to the direction of hair growth (from nose to ear or ear to nose).
Rinse – moisturize: After shaving, rinse your skin with cold water, and then moisturize, nourish, and refresh it by applying aftershave balm or lotion.
