On March 16, Paul Van Doren and Jim Van Doren, along with partners Gordon Lee and Serge Delia, opened The Van Doren Rubber Company in Anaheim, California. The Vans #44 deck shoes, known as Authentic, were born. Skateboarders who loved Vans™' sturdy design and sticky sole began to be seen throughout Southern California wearing their Vans. The Vans #95, now known as Era, with a padded collar and different color combinations, was designed by Tony Alva and Stacy Peralta and became the shoe of choice for the skateboarding generation.
