TATARA About
The name TATARA (鑪) is inspired by the furnace that master blacksmiths used in ancient Japan to smelt steel for Samurai swords. Like Japanese katanas, our products are made with extreme dedication and attention to detail. Combining this with the obsessive precision of modern engineering.
We are an engineering team based in Porto, Portugal, passionate about product development. We came together in September 2016 to conceive, design, and develop TATARA’s shaving products.
Noticing a market saturation in DE razors that are not distinct, we dare to conceive a clean and elegant safety razor (SR). This, strongly supported by minimalism and design, and with the goal of achieving a smooth and efficient shave.
During product development, we experimented with various combinations for blade gap, angle, and exposure. Through safety razor users, we perceived that characteristics such as vibration and blade alignment are actually very important for achieving a comfortable and smooth shave.
By maintaining machining tolerances (0.02 mm), we can reinforce the correct seating of the parts and limit blade movements between the razor’s plate and cap.
However, we realized there were other variables that still impacted the shaving experience!
We knew we could help with wet shaving, and we found our mission!
To create extraordinary long-lasting products in a sustainable way and provide an enjoyable and comfortable shaving experience.
