In the 18th century, fashion dictated that men wore trousers with waists too high for a belt to be effective. In fact, throughout the Victorian era, the best way for a gentleman to hold up his trousers was with suspenders. Since its first years of production, Albert Thurston suspenders have been extremely popular among royalty, statesmen, and upper-class gentlemen.
