The Muramasa is a highly efficient and comfortable adjustable razor that allows you to select your preferred shave closeness (mild or aggressive) simply by turning the razor dial.

The adjustment mechanism is the first and only of its kind in the world, patented by Tatara.

For the first time in the world, this razor's adjustment mechanism is not multi-part or spring-loaded, but rather designed with fewer moving parts, making it much more durable, and allowing the bottom piece to loosen as the adjustment changes.

As the adjustment dial is turned, the bottom plate slides out or moves in the opposite direction. This way, the blade's angle against the skin is achieved solely by the movement of the bottom piece. As the adjustment changes, the blade gap and the blade's angle against the skin can be adjusted gradually and simultaneously.

The Muramasa has 5 settings. Setting 1 provides a mild shave, while settings closer to 5 provide a closer shave.

As a result of this ingenious system, which is lock-free and spring-free, you can stop the aggression level wherever you wish. Whether it's 1 or 1.5! Yes, it's possible to shave at intermediate settings, and this is entirely up to your preference!

The special blade locking system not only covers the sides, but with the firm pressure of the top piece, the blade does not move, vibrate, or remain exposed!

The name TATARA (鑪) is inspired by the furnace that master blacksmiths in ancient Japan used to melt steel for Samurai swords. Like Japanese katanas, our products are made with extreme dedication and attention to detail. Combining this with the obsessive precision of modern engineering.

Based in Porto, Portugal, we are an engineering team passionate about product development. We came together in September 2016 to conceive, design, and develop TATARA’s shaving products.

Noticing a market saturation in unvaried DE razors, we dare to imagine a clean and elegant safety razor (SR). This strongly underpinned by minimalism and design, and with the goal of achieving a smooth and efficient shave.

During product development, we experimented with various combinations for blade gap, angle, and exposure. Through safety razor users, we perceived that characteristics such as vibration and blade alignment are, in fact, very important to achieve a comfortable and smooth shave.

By ensuring machining tolerances (0.02 mm), we are able to reinforce the accurate placement of the parts and limit blade movements between the razor’s plate and cap.

However, we noticed other variables still influenced the shaving experience!
