Mühle Safety Razor - Closed Comb - R HXG FOREST

Hexagon Razor blade, closed comb, anodized aluminum-bronze

The Mühle R HXG Forest razor is a medium-aggressive safety razor that is in the bathroom of anyone with a traditional shaver, providing the most effective daily shaving result.

This razor consists of 3 parts (upper head - lower head - handle). The machine can be opened by turning its head, and you can put the razor blade between the two heads and then closed.

The head is changeable. In other words, you can turn your closed-comb machine into an aggressive open-comb machine with only head replacement. The same can be applied when there is a change from 3-piece open-comb machines to closed-comb machines.

The head of the closed comb razors can be changed by purchasing a open comb head. The head of the open comb razors can be changed by purchasing a closed comb head.

Head Anatomy

Mühle's closed-comb machines are safe structures where there is a safety bar between the razor and the skin, where the razor can only touch the skin at a certain angle (30-45 degrees range). Since the Razor blade is behind the safety bar and cannot contact the skin directly, it can be easily used by those who will use a classic razor for the first time, and provides a shave that is performance but does not tire the skin in daily shaving.

Mühle's razors with closed-comb can be used by anyone new to traditional shaving. All closed comb razors have the same head and are offered with different handle designs. All are designed by calculating the optimum balance-maneuverability and grip ergonomics.

To whom are Mühle closed-comb razors are recommended?

For users new to traditional shaving

For daily shaving users

For users who are not satisfied with the cartridge Razor blades in daily shaving.

For users who suffer from ingrown hairs after daily shaving

Users who experience irritation, dryness and itching after shaving due to the razor used in daily shaving,

So what is the open-comb structure? What is the difference with closed structure? It is important to know the difference between the two builds to make sure that the razor you buy is right for you.

There is no safety bar in Mühle's open-head shavers. It has a open tooth comb structure instead of the safety bar, and due to the difference of the blade bend angle, the razor can contact the skin directly and at a right angle. They are very close shaving machines that require hand habit. Due to its open tooth comb structure, the beards get inside the comb and the razor can cut the beard closer to the skin.

Why do you need it?

  • Provides a performance and trouble-free shave that does not tire the skin in daily shaving.
  • Since it cuts the beard not from the bottom in one go, but by reducing it, it prevents problems such as ingrown hair and irritation that can be encountered in daily shaving.
  • It protects you and nature as it is an environmentally friendly shaver without plastic waste.
  • Since the razor is the only consumable, it is much more economical in the long run.
  • It is not a disposable razor. As long as you are well cared for, it serves you for a lifetime.
  • It is made of stainless zinc.

About Design

Hexagon

Precise tools, impeccable design: The new HEXAGON series… For its new Hexagon series, Mühle collaborated with renowned Berlin designer Mark Braun. The result? Finely proportioned shaving products – yet anything but classic.

Why? Because the hexagonal profile of each product, a contemporary and ergonomic design, is combined with traditional and thoroughly practical elements to ensure a good grip and functionality. This is a design approach for which Mark Braun has already won numerous awards.

The choice of colors – graphite, forest green, silver, and sunset – could not be more modern or earthy. These subtle earth tones also make a small reference to the Erzgebirge, the rugged terrain between Saxony and Bohemia, where the culture of shaving belongs.

With Mark Braun's design, the Hexagon shaving set received the Red Dot Design Award, the German Design Award, and the Manufacturer's Product of the Year award in 2017!

How to Use

Use and Tips

- In traditional shaving, preparation is important. The skin and beard should be softened during preparation, and this process should only be done with lather obtained from cream or soap.

- The skin should be softened with the whipped cream-like shaving foam, preferably (ideally) with the help of a shaving brush. Moving the shaving brush with foam on your face for about 1 minute is sufficient to soften and stimulate the beard.

- Open the head of your razor. Hold the blade by its short edge, place it inside the razor, and close it.

- If your razor is a 3-piece type, it will open by twisting its head; if it's a 2-piece type, it will open by twisting the component on the handle.

- Then start shaving. Closed comb razors only touch the skin at a 30-45 degree angle. They cannot directly contact the skin. They shorten the beard by cutting it, which is why you need to shave in passes. It is important to shave according to the direction of beard growth.

- For the first pass, shave in the same direction as your beard growth. While this direction is from top to bottom on the cheek, it may differ on the neck. The direction of beard growth is different for every man and cannot be changed by the cutting direction.

- Do not press. Classic razors shave with their own weight. Gently hold the razor by its handle and do not press it against your skin. Allow it to glide with the lather and blade. For those new to traditional shaving, our primary goal is to achieve a shave without irritation, not necessarily a completely clean one. As you get used to it (approximately 8-10 shaves), clean shaves will come naturally. Do not go over the same spot repeatedly.

- After the first pass, reapply lather to your face with a brush or your hand. For the second pass, shave in the same direction or diagonally for a closer shave (e.g., from ear to cheek, or cheek to ear).

- The skin perceives each blade contact as an impact. After shaving, it is important to soothe this impact. Post-shave products contain highly soothing ingredients. If you have problems like dryness, itching, or redness, use balm. If you do not experience such discomforts, you can use lotion for a lighter effect. Using both is also common; you can apply lotion first, then balm.

- We recommend not shaving against the grain until you are fully accustomed to the razor. This can cause undesirable situations such as irritation or ingrown hairs.

- Mühle classic razors have chrome-plated heads made of metal. Applying excessive force to metal components can cause screw deformation; please avoid this. Oiling the metal components a few times a year with metal oil will add value to the lifespan of your razor.

- After shaving, remove the blade from the razor, dry it, and store it in its paper wrapper. Mühle razors are made from stainless zamak alloy. However, we do not recommend prolonged exposure of the surface to a rusty blade.

- Although the average number of uses for razor blades is 4-5, this depends directly on the razor used, frequency of shaving, blade brand, and skin type. Therefore, each person's usage count is unique. Change the blade as soon as you feel it pulling instead of cutting your beard. Do not shave with a dull blade, as it will cause irritation.
