Mühle Safety Razor - Open Comb - R 101

The Mühle R101 is the world's most aggressive shaver with unrivaled performance shaving in intermittent shaving, in the bathroom of every traditional shaver. All open comb razors have the same head and are offered with different handle designs. All are designed by calculating the optimum balance-maneuverability and grip ergonomics.

About head anatomy:

There is no safety bar in Mühle's open-head shavers. It has a open tooth comb structure instead of the safety bar, and due to the difference of the blade bend angle, the razor can contact the skin directly and at a right angle. They are very close shaving machines that require hand habit. Due to its open tooth comb structure, the beards get inside the comb and the razor can cut the beard closer to the skin.

Who are the open comb shavers recommended?

Mühle open comb shavers:

We recommend it to people who are used to using the traditional razors without pressing (that is, as it should be), who have good hand habits and techniques, who do not shave daily, and who shave 2 or 3 times a week.

It does an excellent job on a long beard, as the beard is taken into the comb with its combed structure. Mühle's open comb razors are ideal for those who shave their long beard.

We do not recommend Mühle open combed machines to our novice users.

So what is the closed-comb structure? What is the difference with open structure? It is important to know the difference between the two builds to make sure that the razor you buy is right for you.

Mühle's closed-comb machines are safe structures where there is a safety bar between the razor and the skin, where the razor can only touch the skin at a certain angle (30-45 degrees range). Since the Razor blade is behind the safety bar and cannot contact the skin directly, it can be easily used by those who will use a classic razor for the first time, and provides a shave that is performance but does not tire the skin in daily shaving.

Mühle's razors with closed-comb can be used by anyone new to traditional shaving.

To whom are Mühle closed-comb razors are recommended?

For users new to traditional shaving

For daily shaving users

For users who are not satisfied with the cartridge Razor blades in daily shaving.

For users who suffer from ingrown hairs after daily shaving

Users who experience irritation, dryness and itching after shaving due to the razor used in daily shaving,

Why do you need it?

  • If you shave your slightly long or long beard two or three times a week, you will get a very effective and clean shave without tire your skin.
  • Since it cuts the beard not from the bottom in one go, but by reducing it, it prevents problems such as ingrown hair, ingrown hair and irritation that can be encountered in daily shaving.
  • As it is an environmentally friendly shaver without plastic waste, it protects you and nature.
  • Since the blade is the only consumable, it is much more economical in the long run.
  • It is not a disposable razor. As long as you are well cared for, it serves you for a lifetime.
  • It is made of stainless zinc.

About Design

About head anatomy:

Mühle’s open-comb razors do not have a safety bar. Instead of a safety bar, they have a comb-like structure, and due to the different blade bending angle, the blade can contact the skin directly and at a steep angle.

These razors give a very close shave and require practice to use. Due to their comb-like structure, whiskers enter the comb, and the blade can cut the hair closer to the skin.

Who are open-comb razors recommended for?

We recommend Mühle open-comb razors to:

  • Individuals who are accustomed to using a classic razor without pressure (i.e., as it should be used), have developed the necessary skill and technique, do not shave daily, and shave 2 or 3 times a week.
  • Since the comb-like structure guides the whiskers into the comb, it performs excellently on long beards. Mühle open-comb razors are ideal for those who shave long beards and desire a baby-smooth shave.
  • We do not recommend Mühle open-comb razors for new users who lack experience.
  • So, what is a closed-comb head structure? What is the difference between it and an open-comb structure? It is important to understand the difference between the two structures to ensure that the razor you purchase is suitable for you.

Mühle’s closed-comb razors are safe structures where a safety bar is present between the blade and the skin, and the blade can only contact the skin at a certain angle (between 30-45 degrees). Since the blade rests behind the safety bar and cannot directly contact the skin, they can be easily used by first-time classic razor users and provide a high-performance yet gentle shave for daily use.

Anyone new to traditional shaving can use Mühle’s closed-comb razors.

How to Use

  • Prepare your skin for shaving: For a perfect traditional wet shave, always shave during or after a hot shower. Apply lather to your skin to soften it and prepare your beard for shaving. Applying shaving foam with a shaving brush helps remove dead skin cells and lifts the hairs, preparing them for a comfortable shave. Also, if possible, allowing the foam to remain on your skin for at least 1-2 minutes will further soften your beard and make shaving easier.
  • First grip: The safety razor should be held at a 30° angle to the skin. To find the correct angle, first hold the razor parallel to your skin. Then slowly lift the razor until you feel the blade touching your skin, and stop; this is the 30° angle you should maintain. You can be sure that after about 5 shaves, you will intuitively find the correct angle and gain practice.
  • First pass: The most important rule to know when using a safety razor is to not press. Let the razor do its work with its own weight. Take the first pass in the direction of hair growth. Do not go over areas where you feel the razor is not cutting your beard. A safety razor cuts the beard by reducing it; it does not provide a baby-smooth shave in a single pass. Save these areas for the second pass. One of the simplest causes of irritation is pressing and repeatedly going over the skin with the razor. Do not allow this!
  • Second pass: After reapplying lather to your skin, clean the remaining hairs in the second pass, also in the direction of hair growth. If you want a closer shave, you can shave perpendicular to the direction of hair growth (from nose to ear or ear to nose).
  • Rinse – moisturize: After shaving, rinse your skin with cold water, then moisturize, nourish, and refresh it by applying an aftershave balm or lotion.
