Masamune Upper Head - Stainless Steel
Tatara's Masamune Top Cap is designed to secure the blade between the base plate as the most critical part of safety razors.
CNC machined from stainless steel, this part is produced with Tatara's high-precision engineering. The protrusions on the cap pass through the blade's holes, ensuring perfect alignment with the base plate and handle. This secures the blade at the correct angle and minimizes vibration.
The sandblasted surface finish provides both a matte aesthetic and durability.
It is covered by a lifetime warranty against rust and manufacturing defects.

TATARA About
The name TATARA (鑪) was inspired by the furnace used by blacksmiths in ancient Japan to smelt steel for Samurai swords. Like Japanese katanas, our products are made with extreme dedication and attention to detail. This is combined with the obsessive precision of modern engineering.
Based in Porto, Portugal, we are an engineering team passionate about product development. We came together in September 2016 to conceive, design, and develop TATARA’s shaving products.
Noticing a market saturation in DE razors that were not different, we dare to imagine a clean and elegant safety razor (SR). This, strongly supported by minimalism and design, and with the goal of achieving a smooth and efficient shave.
During product development, we experimented with various combinations for blade gap, angle, and exposure. Through safety razor users, we perceived that features such as vibration and blade alignment are actually very important to achieve a comfortable and smooth shave.
By ensuring machining tolerances (0.02 mm), we can reinforce the correct placement of the parts and limit blade movements between the razor’s plate and cap.
However, we realized there were other variables that still impacted the shaving experience!
We knew we could help wet shaving and had found our mission!
To create extraordinarily long-lasting products in a sustainable way and provide a pleasant and comfortable shaving experience.
What does it do

Blade angle control: The blade is fixed at the correct angle thanks to the geometry between the top cap and the bottom plate.

Negative blade exposure – less blade feel on the skin: This provides a smoother and irritation-free shaving experience.

Closed comb design that reduces irritation: The grooves on the edges limit contact between the skin and the blade, increasing safety.

Accurate alignment: The protrusions on the cap pass through the holes in the blade and fit into the slots of the bottom plate, ensuring perfect alignment.

Stable angle: Thanks to the geometry of the top cap and bottom plate, the blade slightly deforms at a certain angle, thus remaining stable during shaving.

Reduces vibration: Eliminates the risk of blade play, providing a smooth and comfortable shaving experience.
