In the 18th century, fashion dictated that men wear high-waisted trousers, so high that a belt couldn't do the job. In fact, throughout the Victorian era, suspenders were the best way for a gentleman to keep his trousers up. Since its early years of production, Albert Thurston suspenders have been very popular among royalty, statesmen, and upper-class gentlemen.
