The shaving bowl is made using a traditional Portuguese porcelain shaping process. As a final finish, the pieces are dipped in a glazed bath, resulting in unique pieces with an elegant sheen, inspired by the hand-painted Japanese techniques used in Urushi lacquer bowls.

The shaving bowl is designed to be held securely with one hand and to create a beautiful and soft lather that enhances the shaving experience. The inside of the bowl features small dotted protrusions that aerate the shaving soap, helping you quickly create a rich and thick lather.

This box contains one black Tatara shaving bowl.

The name TATARA (鑪) is inspired by the furnace that master blacksmiths in ancient Japan used to melt steel for Samurai swords. Like Japanese katanas, our products are made with extreme dedication and attention to detail. Combining this with the obsessive precision of modern engineering.

Based in Porto, Portugal, we are an engineering team passionate about product development. We came together in September 2016 to imagine, design, and develop TATARA's shaving products.

Noticing a market saturation in DE razors that were not different, we dared to imagine a clean and elegant safety razor (SR). This is strongly supported by minimalism and design, with the aim of achieving a smooth and efficient shave.

During product development, we experimented with various combinations for blade gap, angle, and exposure. Through safety razor users, we perceived that features such as vibration and blade alignment are actually very important for achieving a comfortable and smooth shave.

By ensuring machining tolerances (0.02 mm), we can reinforce the correct positioning of the parts and limit blade movements between the razor's plate and cap.

However, we realized there were other variables that still affected the shaving experience!

We knew we could help with wet shaving, and we found our mission!
