On March 16, Paul Van Doren and Jim Van Doren, along with partners Gordon Lee and Serge Delia, opened The Van Doren Rubber Company in Anaheim, California. The Vans #44 deck shoes, known as Authentic, were born. Skaters who loved the sturdy design and sticky sole of Vans™ began to be seen all over Southern California sporting their Vans. Vans #95, now known as Era, with a padded collar and different color combinations, was designed by Tony Alva and Stacy Peralta and became the shoe of choice for the skateboarding generation.
