SOPHIST

As in the first examples of classic shaving, SOPHIST, from the CLASSIC series, could not be more contemporary than this, although its products remind of the very old. Its use and appearance are enjoyable with its rounded shapes and simple designs. Due to the precious and flawless materials used in the manufacture, it will remain particularly beautiful without spoiling for a lifetime. Genuine horn, African elm, porcelain, polished premium resin: the materials in this range are sophisticated in the truest sense of the word.

Each handcrafted model is crafted with a dose of Saxon patience; From the shaving brush tips and chrome plated parts to the elaborately processed MÜHLE seal on the base of the brush. You are offered the freedom of choice in shaving brush bristle type: According to your preference, the bristles can be produced using gray badger hair or synthetic Silvertip Fiber®. The knot diameter of the shaving brushes of this series is 23 mm.

Silvertip badger

The finest natural hair for handcrafted shaving brushes. Its special features are the shimmering silver colour and a black band running though the hair. It is used to make durable, high-quality unique pieces - and products that make the wet shave the best time-out imaginable. The fine, conically tapering hairs possess the ability to retain a large amount of water and produce a dense, creamy lather. 

The Material - Porcelain

Its manufactures dates back to ancient China; in Europe, 'white gold' was first produced in 1708. An elegant, delicate material which must be worked with extreme care, from the manufacture of the blank shapes to the completed individual piece. Each body is shaped, glazed and fired by hand. Subsequently, the top and bottom of the handles are combined with chrome-plated brass fittings.

How to Use a Traditional Shaving Set?

Prepare shaving foam: Prepare shaving foam with warm water, a shaving brush and shaving cream or shaving soap. Wet your shaving brush with warm water and create a foam by whisking it in circular motions on the soap / cream in the bowl without shaking the brush. To make the shaving foam thicker and thicker, you can adjust the consistency of the foam by dropping a few drops of water on your brush.

Prepare your skin for the shave: Always shave during or after a hot shower for a flawless traditional wet shave. Apply foam to your skin to soften your skin and prepare your beards for shaving. The application of shaving foam with a shaving brush helps to remove the dead layer on the skin, while removing the beard and preparing it for a comfortable shave. Also, if possible, leaving the foam on your skin for at least 1-2 minutes will allow the beards to soften more and shave easier.

Step 1: Moisten the beard area, preferably with warm water, and lather it thoroughly with a brush. If possible, use a highly effective moisturising shaving cream or soap. This will allow the blade to slide over the skin more easily.  Make sure that the razor head and handle are firmly attached to each other, but only tighten the screw to the extent that it can be unscrewed without much effort.

Step 2: Now begin with the shave. Hold the safety razor at an obtuse angle (approx. 30°) to the skin. Start with the cheeks and allow the razor to slide over the skin, applying gentle pressure.  Always shave in the direction of the beard growth (with the grain).

Step 3: When shaving the neck, stretch the skin tight with your free hand. Do not be discouraged by small cuts or grazes. Once you have familiarised yourself with the razor, they will rarely occur.  For practised shavers: by slightly loosening the handle (approx. ½ a revolution) the angle of the blade is increased. This enables you to shave very cleanly in contours.  Always tighten the handle before continuing with the rest of the shave. Rinse - moisturize: Rinse your skin with cold water after shaving, moisturize, nourish and refresh with an aftershave balm or aftershave.
