There is no safety bar in Mühle's open-comb razors. It has a scalloped structure instead of the safety bar, and due to the difference of the razor bend angle, the razor can contact the skin directly and at a right angle.

They are very close shaving machines that require hand habit. Due to its scalloped structure, the beards get inside the comb and the razor can cut it closer to the skin.

Who are the open comb shavers recommended?

Mühle open comb shavers:

•  We recommend it to people who are used to using the traditional razors without pressing (that is, as it should be), who have good hand habits and techniques, who do not shave daily, and who shave 2 or 3 times a week.
• It does an excellent job on a long beard, as the beard is taken into the comb with its combed structure. Mühle's open comb razors are ideal for those who shave their long beard.
• We do not recommend Mühle open combed machines to our novice users.

The most traditional (and yes, perhaps the most beautiful) form of shaving is the classic shaving ritual (also called a safety razor). It requires some practice and a certain degree of resourcefulness. However, someone who has mastered this process after a few (dry) attempts will never want to shave the other way in the future.

The MÜHLE factory offers two types of razors: the open comb version, which requires a direct forward shaving technique, and the closed comb version, which is very gentle and precise. Great freedom of choice: The handles of these products are available in chrome-plated metal, black, premium resin and tortoiseshell imitation with a finely machined twist-line structure. Shaving brushes are compatible with gray badger hair and Silvertip Fiber® synthetic bristle, as well as three elegant handle models complete the set. The shaving brushes of the series have a knot diameter of 21 mm.

HOW TO USE A RAZOR?

Moisten the shaving zone – the face and neck – with warm to hot water.

Make a loose lather from shaving soap or cream with the brush, apply in gentle strokes and enjoy the massage effect, then allow to take effect for one or two minutes. Shaving with a safety razor requires a little practice. The skin also needs some time to grow accustomed to the shave. Getting started will be easier if you follow these instructions:

Step 1:

Moisten the beard area, preferably with warm water, and lather it thoroughly with a brush. If possible, use a highly effective moisturising shaving cream or soap. This will allow the blade to slide over the skin more easily.  Make sure that the razor head and handle are firmly attached to each other, but only tighten the screw to the extent that it can be unscrewed without much effort.

Step 2:

Now begin with the shave. Hold the safety razor at an obtuse angle (approx. 30°) to the skin. Start with the cheeks and allow the razor to slide over the skin, applying gentle pressure.  Always shave in the direction of the beard growth (with the grain).

Step 3:

When shaving the neck, stretch the skin tight with your free hand. Do not be discouraged by small cuts or grazes. Once you have familiarised yourself with the razor, they will rarely occur.  For practised shavers: by slightly loosening the handle (approx. ½ a revolution) the angle of the blade is increased. This enables you to shave very cleanly in contours.  Always tighten the handle before continuing with the rest of the shave. Rinse - moisturize: Rinse your skin with cold water after shaving, moisturize, nourish and refresh with an aftershave balm or aftershave.
